When the dead began to rise, you were in a hotel, in the middle of nowhere, with no way of contacting the outside world. You’d arrived by bus after a two hour journey winding deeper and deeper into the bush, and the bus had driven away after dropping you off, with a promise to pick you up at the end of the week.

Of course, it’s hard to believe in that promise right now. You’ve been woken up at midnight on the second night by a gunshot somewhere in the hotel building. You don’t know it right now but you’re one of twenty survivors of the night so far.

It was pissing down with rain when you arrived, and hasn’t let up since. There’s a flood warning on the nearby hiking trail, so everyone is stuck in the hotel.

The main hotel is a grand old manor house that barely makes sense for where it is. Stretching out from it is a winding labyrinth of rooms added on later, all in the same old manor styling. Most rooms have indoor and outdoor entrances from public spaces, but not all do. Every room is accessible to wheelchairs and there are ramps up to verandas.

Inside is generally cosy though - there’s a library and rec room with a pool table and a piano (even though it says “please do not play unless you know how” on it), the owner seems to live here, and there’s plenty of food from the kitchen at meal times. This would be a nice place to be.

Any other night.

Tonight though, this may be the unluckiest place to be in the world.

Ten of your fellow guests have died. Nineteen, plus you, are still alive. The dead are fast, strong, and don’t stay down, even when movie logic says they should.

How will you escape?

Or will you not even survive the night?

-------

This game is proof of concept for a mistrust exercise. I wanted to experiment with an analog game that allows players to secretly murder one another, and then turn on one another.

This game draws its mechanic from a game called "liar" I played in high school. You'll get snippy with each other, you'll doubt each other, you'll fight. You may not all survive (except Blaze, Blaze will survive.)

Have I mentioned Blaze? He's a horse. He's a horse and he's a playable character.

For 2 to 13 players. No, really.
